Tromsø: Aurora over Kvaløysletta and the city

On the fourth night, the aurora reached into the settled landscape of Kvaløysletta. Moonlit cloud, calm water, cabins, sheds, and the lights across Tromsø give each frame a fixed horizon while green bands sweep and split above it. The strongest displays appear almost architectural, rising behind wooden buildings before widening over the fjord. This final sequence brings the Arctic sky closest to everyday life.

Tromsø: Aurora in Tromsø, Håkøybotn and Brokskar

The evening starts under Tromsø’s streetlights before moving south and west to darker shores. At Håkøybotn and Brokskar, green and violet curtains rise behind bare trees, stretch above snowy ridges, and reflect faintly in still water. Repeated viewpoints make the aurora’s movement visible: narrow rays gather, open into a broad arc, and dissolve into softer light across the mountains.

Tromsø: Aurora in Ersfjordbotn and Grøtfjord

The first night west of Tromsø began beneath cloud and grew steadily brighter. Green arcs formed over Ersfjordbotn, gathered around mountain peaks, and broke into faster folds of light at Grøtfjord. Roads and village lamps anchor the final panoramas, giving scale to the sky and tracing the shore below. The sequence records the aurora changing from a distant ribbon into the dominant presence overhead.

Gdańsk Autumn Nights

Three autumn nights trace a route out from central Gdańsk. The warmly lit tower of St Catherine’s rises over the street; at the coast, a long exposure turns moving water and cloud into bands of blue; beyond the city, a wet track crosses dark fields beneath a faintly starred sky. The series is held together by artificial light meeting unsettled weather.

This ongoing study follows evening light around the edges of Gdańsk: Górki Zachodnie, Nowy Port, Westerplatte, and the harbour approaches. The sun appears through grasses and branches, beside navigation lights, over waves, and beyond long stone breakwaters. As colour drains from the sky, cranes and passing ships take over, extending the sequence from golden hour into blue-hour industry.

La Palma Seaside

The roads along La Palma’s coast repeatedly open onto the Atlantic. Black lava fields slope toward the water; at Fuencaliente, white salt mounds and pink evaporation ponds surround the lighthouse; higher up, a narrow road folds through a steep volcanic face. The final panorama gathers coastline, settlement, mountains, cloud, and open ocean into one continuous edge.

La Palma Sunsets

La Palma often places the sunset above, rather than at, the visible horizon. From the high forest, the ocean is replaced by a level blanket of cloud and a distant island; lower down, pines and mountain slopes become silhouettes against a narrow band of colour. On the coast, the sun finally touches the Atlantic beyond banana fields and a solitary lighthouse.

Tenerife By The Ocean

On Tenerife’s coast, small fishing boats are pulled above a sandy cove beneath an intensely blue sky. A yellow restaurant, improvised sheds, harbour lights, and overhead wires make the working waterfront feel direct and lived-in, while the mountain wall and Atlantic remain close on either side. The single frame is as much about coastal colour and daily use as it is about the ocean.

A Weekend In Venice

Venice after dark is less about grand vistas than pools of light. A crescent moon hangs over a domed roof; decorations lead toward a small bridge; a gondola crosses black water with San Giorgio Maggiore beyond. The Bridge of Sighs and narrow lanes emerge from deep shadow, while lit windows repeat across a canal. Winter gives the city’s colour and reflections space to breathe.

A Winter In Jantar

Jantar beach is spare and graphic in winter. A bright fishing boat stands above the tideline, a lone shrub bends over the snow, and wind sends loose powder streaming across the sand. The last image turns toward the open Baltic, where gray-blue waves meet a narrow seam of peach light. Colour appears only in small, vivid interruptions against the cold shore.

A Weekend In Hel

Late October brought sharp light to the Hel Peninsula. The low sun turned the water silver, reduced walkers on the broad beach to small silhouettes, and picked out every fold in the dunes. Farther along, a rocky breakwater traced the edge of the peninsula into the Baltic. These three photographs follow a short walk from open sand to the exposed end of the coast.

Autumn in Sobieszewo

Sobieszewo Island compresses several landscapes into a single walk. Moonlight filters through branches at Górki, mushrooms and a slowworm occupy the forest floor, and warm sun reaches between the pines at Świbno. The path eventually opens onto an almost empty beach before dusk carries the eye back across the water to the distant cranes of Gdańsk port.

Summer in Madeira

Madeira’s scale changes quickly: a headland crowded at sunset gives way to black sand beneath mountain walls, then to sheer cliffs and isolated sea stacks. At São Lourenço the island feels dry and exposed; in Fanal, old laurel trees disappear into green shade and mist. The sequence follows those contrasts, with the Atlantic acting as the constant edge.

Spring by the Baltic Sea

One frame can hold an entire evening. At Łeba, the sun dropped beneath a bank of spring cloud while a ship waited near the horizon. Waves kept redrawing the foreground and the wet sand briefly carried the same orange and rose colours as the sky. The photograph is an early marker in this archive: a familiar Baltic shore made new by a few minutes of light.
